About Cubs

Our Cubs at 7th Bangor are boys and girls between 8 & 10½ years old. They are members of the Scout Association, and like challenge & adventure. Cub Scouts usually meet once a week as a Pack, on a Friday night at 6.45pm. They are under the supervision of Leaders led by the Cub Scout Leader, known to the Cubs as Akela. The Pack is divided into Sixes, each named after a colour and are led by a Cub Scout called a Sixer and their Seconder.

Cub Scouting is about

  • Having fun
  • Making friends
  • Enjoying lots of activities
  • Keeping the Promise
  • Playing games
  • Gaining badges
  • Learning about the outdoors
  • Trying new things

Through the many different activities, Cub Scouts will:

  • Learn about themselves
  • Get to know people and learn to work together
  • Explore their community
  • Personal development

There are lots of fun things that you can do as a Cub. You will get a chance to try lots of different activities, like exploring, collecting, cooking & computing. If you do them well, you will get a badge to wear on your uniform

Cub Scouts also go on day trips and outings. Once a year we have a Pack holiday. This is a weekend away with the Cubs in the Pack. Last year we went to Ganaway Activity Centre and next year (May 2012) we will be going either to the Ulster Folk Museum or somewhere completely new!

In 2011, we also ran a Sixers weekend at Slievenaman Schoolhouse in the Mourne Mountains where we built campfires, cooked outdoors and went for a hike up Slieveloughshannagh.

Above all else, Cub Scouting is about having FUN!
